Breeding of members in the firetail and common has been done fairly regularly. The aquarium should have tubes or clay pipes with a fairly large diameter. The male will clean the site and will fan water over the eggs and fry.

At a temperature of about 70 degree F the eggs will hatch in about nine days. The fry will eat small flake food as well as baby brine shrimp and algae scrapings. They are not the easiest to raise and a bare bottom tank is best.

From what I've read about plecos, they are really difficult to breed in captivity. I wouldn't recommend trying it. As far as breeding the two kinds of plecos together, I imagine if you were able to breed them at all, they are closely enough related to breed and create hybrid fry.

I don't think plecos do well breeding in aquariums. Check this site though. Not sure if the different species will breed, guess it's possible.
