He WAS a dictator, yes. Threatened to stack the supreme court with judges who supported him to help get unconstitutional motions thru. Can be credited with the beginning of the socialist state in which we now live.

I often refer to FDR as "King Roosevelt", since he made a mockery of the unofficial Two Term Presidency. No, he was not a Dictator, for dictators usurp power from the legally elected and never have to answer to the electorate. Thanks to King Roosevelt we now have an Amendment to the Constitution that disallows anyone from serving more than two and a half terms as President of the United States. The funny thing about his first term was that he had the Congress behind him but the Supreme Court kept finding his programs unconstitutional. When he tried to pack the SC by increasing its numbers from 9 to 15 Congress turned against him. After that he got to make some SC appointments that he needed for his Socialists Policies, but Congress wouldn't touch the legislation he wanted them to pass. All this shows the power of the separate branches of government was a great concept the Founding Fathers had. And the best thing is that it is still working today. Just ask King George IV!

I was born the year FDR took office and was old enough the year he died to know he was revered by the people of this country. By no stretch of the imagination was he a dictator.

No president in the history of this country has been more popular while he was alive then FDR and mourned deeply when he died.
So no. He was not a dictator, just one of the greatest presidents ever.

No. When America is at war the it is the President's duty to protect America. He did what he deemed necessary to protect the homeland while we were at war. I am a conservative and it hated the socialist programs he initiated but he was excellent during war time. The last Democrat that was good on defense was Kennedy. Johnson screwed up so badly in Vietnam that he didn't even want to run for re-election. Carter was the weakest ever. Clinton was never very serious about anything.

Probably as close as we've had and a perfect model to judge the current regime against.
The attempt to stack the supreme court
The growth of government intrusion into private lives
The internment of Japanese
The Invasions of Iceland and Greenland
Firing on German ships on the high seas
Fortunately truman was a true American who believed in limited government

The Japanese-American internment would suggest so, as well as his scheme to stack the Supreme Court.
Given my distrust of Bush on similar matters, this isn't an unfair question.

Not at all. He had big problems to deal with and trying to make the needed correction for the depression he went a little too far, but overall he was a great man,
