Hi and welcome to Yahoo Answers.
First, Hal Leonard Music publishers have a couple of books that might help. One is titled "How to Write Songs on Keyboards". The other is "How to Write Songs on Guitar". Check on-line or go to your music or book store to see if they have them. They are a book and CD set.

But to get you started right now go to:

http://www.easy-song-writing.com/

When there scroll down to where it says Songwriting Tips.

Good luck and have fun with your music.

I generally write slightly of a poem to support me. Poems are songs, and songs are poems, that's why I do that. After I write the poem then I return and notice if there is whatever that I desire so as to add. :D Hope this is helping...
