Personnally, no I don't like the name Austen for a girl, I know a boy by the name of Austen. I don't think I like the name in general. Plus, it reminds me of Austen, Texas, but if you want to name your kid after a city more power to you.

I think the name is beautiful. I was thinking about the name for a girl too. I think it's a great choice and all these people need to realize that it's not named after the city in Texas. That's AUSTIN, not AUSTEN. The author's name is much better with that E and it evokes a very feminine quality for the people who aren't ignorant and actually know where the name comes from!

You know I started to say no just because Austen is a boy's name, but I thought about it and I really think it would be lovely as a girls name. Go for it.

I LOVE the name Austen for a girl!
Not to mention, it is YOUR baby and as long as you love the name that is all that matters. The way you feel about it will make everyone else love it by the time she gets here. Good luck on your beautiful baby girl!

No, Austin is a boys name to me, and that too similar. Were you naming after Jane Austen? How about picking a female character from one of her books, or adapting one of the boys names if you like something less feminine?

No because my cousin is called Austin and he is a boy. I know you can have some boy names as girl names but Austen or Austin is definitely a boys name.

A childs name is forever...in some cases mothers go and change them later like a lady i know. Her son was named and put on the birth certificate and then decided when he was 4 months old or something ridiculous like that, that she wasnt happy so she goes and changes his name to something else...on his birth certificate its reads his new name and in brackets (formerly known as) poor kid!!
Names are really tricky, I have 2 sons Jacob Dean and Mitchell John, if i had had a daughter i wanted her name to be Peyton Taylor but my husband made it known no girl of his was going to be laughed at coz all he could think of when he heard it was LEATHER SHOES!
What ever you decide will be right for you guys! Good luck
