It's a long slow process, but I can tell you that they're better now than they were 40 years ago.

They're improving, but they're far from perfect. It's easier now for people to step out of their given stereotypes and be accepted. I think the barrier between races is coming down but the barrier between socioeconomic classes is rising.

For my generation (Im just starting college), I think things are going pretty well. People are far more willing to have friendships and relationships with people of different races. And it's not about pretending they're not a different race, it's about accepting it and not letting stereotypes get in the way of getting along. Ignoring that people are different or encouraging them to assimilate to "white" culture is basically racism anyways.

Just read an article by a professor from U.C.L.A. who advocates just two races;White and black. If your skin is even the slightest shade of brown or yellowish you will be considered black.
That is really going to make for some strained relations.
Outwardly people seem to be more tolerant;but, racism is still alive and well inwardly for a lot of people, unfortunately.

The more it changes the more it stays the same: The blacks continue to destroy virtualy everything they come in contact with. The whites lock them up & pay for their prison experience, they get out, the cycle starts anew.
