Warts are caused by a viral infection, specifically by the human papillomavirus (HPV - which consequently is what may cause cervical cancer). Warts can be contagious, but aren't transferred between species.
The only thing to worry about when holding a toad or frog is being peed on, which is also harmless. Just wash your hands.

No it is not true. But if you want an easy way to get rid of them, go to peoplespharmacy.com instead of burning, freezing, cutting or using acid to remove them.
