Because the terrorists are not the real reason we went to war. That is just Bush's excuse. Bush knew that he was going into Iraq before 9/11. If terrorists were really his target, Bush would have gone to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, as most of the terrorists were Saudis, indoctrinated by Al Quaida.
The benefits of going to war in Iraq are huge for big business and big oil, but not so in other areas. Bush's reason of getting rid of a brutal dictator doesn't hold water as we haven't deposed any other brutal dictators around the world, even though many are committing many atrocities around the world
Saddam was very anti Al Quaida and kept them out of the country

We are still fighting in Afghanistan. No cutting or running has happened there so far...
The murderers of 9-11 were burned to nothing when they crashed the planes they had hyjacked into the twin towers of NYC. The masterminds of it are unknown. Osama Bin Laden, considered the leader of Al-Qadea was rumored to be in Afghanistan, protected by the Taliban, a government with many admited ties to terrorist organizations. Bin Laden is yet to be found.
Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who claims to have been the mastermind behind the 9-11 attacks is in U.S. custody after his capture in Pakistan in 2003.
No solid proof has surfaced that Saddam Hussein proved an immenent threat to U.S. security, that he had harbored terriorists or their organizations, or posessed WMD's. Bad intelligence and poor judgement let us to attack that country to overthrow Saddam Hussein. It should not have been done.
However, the war we have now.. this War on Terror, is a war that will stretch decades, it is a war that has been going on for at least 20 years before 9-11. Only the enemy was so hidden, we did not realize what was in progress. We are not at war with Iraq, that war ended years ago. We are at war with an army that has no host country, and the main battlegrounds happen to be in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If we leave the middle east this war will not end. It started before we went there, why would leaving end it? The enemy demands we abandon Israel as a friend and ally, and they hold us chiefly responsible for any change to their culture they find undesirable. We won't and should not be forced to abandon Israel, and there is nothing we can do to prevent golbalization... or should do.
It is a terrible thing that we are now in this Grand War, and it is sad that it has escalated so much over the last few years, but here it is. As long as the enemy is led by hateful men who will do anything to further their radical agendas, and as long as we are led by those that will provoke and anger the enemy, this war will go on without end. For every year we provoke them, it will require ten years of allaying them to even hope to find peace.

Excellent Q.
And u asked it without insult, prejudice or name-calling.
Iraq = oil? Is it that desperate? That simple. I wonder what the answers are and the network of dealings that came to that conclusion. Things were not completed in Afghanistan what makes anyone think they will be resolved in Iraq?

Because a "man" named Bush has never served in a war in which he was engaged in combat. He cut and ran from the military he was under with 5 deferments when 4 deferments was the law. So how do you expect him to know how to engage in this one?
And it is true Iraq does have more oil - specifically Northern Iraq around Kuwait. The "Desert Storm"/"Gulf war his Dada sent the military to.

Because Al-Queda and Taliban leaders just fled to Pakistan and we can't do anything about that because they have Nukes. So our next best target was Iraq and thinking they had weapons of mass destruction, but when that was foiled we changed our tactic into installing a democracy, which isn't working because its starting a civil war. So basically we are stuck trying to cover for some mistakes our intelligence made. But if we do have a force in Iraq, that is close to Iran which is our next target in our preemptive war.

Because it is impossible to win in Afghanistan. The British and the Russians discovered that . The pursuit of Al Queda in Afghanistan served to put the Arab world on notice that the US would not hestitate to pursue the bad guys - no matter where they were. to that extent, it has succeeded. But don't look for any Victory Parades in the near future.

It wasn't a country that caused 9/11. It was terrorists that were harbored in Afghanistan and Iraq. We liberated most of them from Afaganastan, and are now working on Iraq.

Because we're not after the "murderers". We're after oil, corporate interests, personal interests (bush, cheney rumsfeld) and nothing else.
Can you counter me on that ? We went for WMD which everyone knew and proven to be non existent and for defending "freedom"... Some might say: "Hey you gotta be kidding me... starting a war to defend freedom.. how retarded is that?"
Yet... Bush said it a dozen of times :)

He already sealed the deal for the multi billion dollar pipeline that the "war" in Afganistan was about. Then it was time to do his share for the Bin Laden Family and get rid of Saddam, and let them and Haliburton reep the benifits of no-bid contracting.

The Bush Administration never cared about fighting in Afghanistan.
They (Wolfowitz, Pearle, Cheney) have been wanting to invade Iraq since they were members of George H W Bush's presidency and the Gulf War ended.
