The world's worst racists ?

And what nationality are you ?

Where and when did anyone ever see segregated toilets, eating places, buses, police holding cells, schools......etc etc etc etc etc in the United Kingdom ?

The British certainly don't have blemish-free record by any means, but at least get your facts straight.

Slavery was abolished in Britain the 12th century.
The African slave trade to the 'New World' was initiated in 1518, by proclamation of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. The Portuguese, French and the Dutch carried the vast majority of the human cargoes, and the majority ( as many as 95 % ) went to Latin America.

It should be noted that one of the sorest complaints of the US Declaration of Independence was that Britain, in the person of King George, was limiting the colonial aspirations in respect of slavery.

The first major trading nation to abolish slavery was Great Britian, some 35 years before the United States, and in Cuba 52 years.

Find one instance of a person being mob-lynched in Britain because of the colour of their skin. We have had our race problems, and we certainloy have our share of morons, but as a whole we are no worse than many, and better ( in this respect ) than more than a few.

This period of history is one that carries heavy memories for all nations, ones that should stand as a warning for all. However, to call the British "the worst racists" is just plain not true.

I don't know about the worst or not the worst, but I was in London with my friend who is white and blue eyed, and I thought that the city had a lot of prejudice going on. It didn't feel any different for me than being in certain places in America. My friend also said that to her the prejudice was palpable. And I have seen racist and nationalist conversation by all on Y!A. I think just because the British express themselves in a more reserved way than Americans, they may seem less prejudice, but the ones, at least in London that I encountered, were not.

You are right. We can't change so that the past blacks got equality though so I guess we should all reintroduce slavery for the new immigrants. There is no point in being hypocritial. Far better that we should continue the work of our ancestors if people are going to complain.

The world is very different now. Plan and simple. You can't hold todays leaders responsible for what happened in the past.

Everyone is going out of the way to prove it doesn't exist. Like *poof* racism disappeared.
I think we should encourage people to be racist in plain view so we can identify the problem and sort it out from there.
Otherwise it's just smoke and mirrors.
