Yes, but it depends on where you live. You have to search the state's education website and it will give you the answer to your question. Most likely you have to commit to working in the state for a certain number of years.

This depends on the state that you work in. I work in Tennessee. If the school that you work at has a high poverty level, then you are eligible to have a portion of your student loan paid after you have worked for 3 years at that school.

Although it has been a long time, I believe that the program is still in place.

I taught at least 5 years in a socio-economically disadvantaged school and my National Defense/Direct Loan was paid off entirely.

Check with your college or university.

In CA, if you teach at a low income school for a certain amount of time (I think it is at least 2 years), then the loans are forgiven.

There is a program in Texas where you can get some of your education paid for if you agree to teach in an urban school for 3 or 5 years (can't remember.)

I've heard that in Wyoming if you sign a contract saying that you will stay in Wyoming for a certain number of years that you will have your loans paid off.

My son is a teacher and he paid his own off. Took and while and he struggled with other things he wanted but he did it himself. I think if teachers can, law enforcers should be able also.
