I am getting a ride to Ensenada with some hippies (in a van, no less) that I think will be carrying pot. It would be kind of expensive to get where I'm going by other means, and they say you never get searched going that direction. Is this true? Thanks.

Take the bus ... it's not expensive and much better than a Mexican jail

I wouldn't do it my friend. I live in Mexico (from chicago). The weed is so cheap here that anyone bringing their own stash in is not just foolish, but stupid. I spend about 100 USD per year to keep my head straight. It was much more in th states. At the border, you can get the green light, or the red one. 50/50 chance, right? The red one will get you searched. If one thing is found wrong, like more than 20 Cds, you'll probably be searched further. Then there is the second checkpoint about 15km inside the country. They don't have the green light red light system. They check anyone they want, and a van would draw attention. Then there is the military. Even on busses I have been searched. The buses in Mexico are cheap and comfortable, like the other poster said.....take a bus.

Having weed opens you up to serious problems, especially in Texas. (a personal supply of weed is legal in Mexico, but maybe only for Mexican nationals) if you're just a hiker you have nothing to fear from honest and just police, But honest and just police are hard to come by in Texas, a state notorious for shady police. I drive a van and someday s I will get stopped as many as 4 times from Brownsville to Texarkana. I'm 47yo wear a suit and the police are abusive,. I hate to think how they would treat a hippie On the Mexico side the idea is too blend in and not draw attention, if a cop pulls you over for any reason it's going to end up costing you money.

Well actually weed it's illegal in Mexico too, if you have a little you can say its for you personal consume and the may take you to jail no more than 72 hours, or you have to pay a fine, anyhow if the cops stops you, you can try to brive them but easy boy, don't be too straight because that can make things worst, and be carefull because there is a megaoperative against drugs in several states (baja california norte included), they have militars men and that could be a real trouble.

Well let me tell you a little something. If you are riding in a van with hippies you will be checked once you get inside the border. If they find pot you WILL go to a Mexican jail. I don't think you will enjoy the experience. I wouldn't risk it.

Mexican jails are an interesting experience and a plus in your CV.
We have two and three star jails, with room service, and if you are a big spender, your stay will be extended.
Mexican jails do not have swimming pools, but you get to meet a lot of interesting characters.
Mexican jails do not have air conditioning, but they do have triple and more cell occupancy.
Sorry, no single rooms, no double rooms.
We will soon install beds in some exclusive (rather expensive) cells.
So, your choice.
Famous last words collection: you never get searched.

I agree with Sparks also--take a bus. In Mexico, you don't have the same rights as in the US. The US Consulate will not bail you out. The Mexican prisons aren't posh, and your family has to bring you food and toiletries. Forget about having cable TV also. If you're arrested. count on being there at least 72 hours.

the city is to blame because of the fact they made the hearth combatants participate interior the parade. As you noted they have been instructed to my their more suitable. They have been of course engaging interior the parade and not offering any style of specific accountability, returned making the city to blame. They have been correct in following the order given to them. in the event that they volunteered to artwork some specific accountability and that they have got been given harasses, that became their determination to artwork it and the city does no longer be to blame at that factor. I trust their lawsuit. As for the different posters who say the city isn't to blame, yet people who have been taunting the hearth combatants, you're incorrect. The firefighters did no longer volunteer to be interior the parade, they have been instructed to do it by ability of a supervisor. The order given isn't unlawful, so they had to conform. Now, in the event that they chosen to be interior the parade, then th city does no longer be to blame for the harassment. additionally, think of approximately this. A cop gets right into a automobile pursuit with yet another automobile. the different automobile chooses to no longer end at a end sign and runs the intersection, hitting and killing yet another motorist. Why does the victims family participants sue the police branch and not the driving force? it isn't the police departments fault the driving force desperate to run from the police and not end, why are the law enforcement officials being sued?

ARE YOU INSANE?????? YES you need to be concerned!!!!! do they check the car all the time? no. but could they at any point check your car and totally ruin your life?? YES!!! the mexican government is BEYOND strict about drugs (despite the drug problems they have.) there are checkpoint everywhere...and if you get by them, it's purely by luck, because they check at random, and they also profile...a LOT. you WILL go to jail, you WILL hate it, you WILL wish you were dead. seriously, don't do it.

tell them to dump and buy it there...that's who they are trying to sell it to anyways...americans! they'll probably get it cheaper because the cut out the drug lords transportations costs. geez....
