Seriously - can anyone look at a presidential candidate in the last decade and say - god I wish he or she was president? Or is it more like - "is this the best our country can put up as the leader of the free world". Is it just me? Why do I always feel like my vote will just not count? Is it that the people with brains don't want the job?

The Republican and Democratic Parties are basically one Aristocracy which has been bleeding us for over a century.
Like any such inbred group they have begun producing imbeciles. Thusly both parties are nominating morons.
The only hope for America is that they will all become sterile.

Are you serious? Why would anyone with half a brain run for president? The pay sucks, you do not get to keep personal gifts, people ***** about everything you do, and some damn fool will like as not try to kill you for some obscure reason that will not make a hill of beans in the real world. After seriously considering these facts is it any wonder we can't get anyone but a moron to run?

I think you answered your own question in the last sentence Or they can't Raise the Money to run or get the Airtime in the media. Personally I would like to see Tom Tancredo and John Ensign of Nevada run. They ae budget minded and are for upholding the rule of law in Illegal Immigration!

Sooo:
Write In Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck Democrats
Glenda the Good Witch and Betty BoopLibertarians and
Elmer Fudd and Sylvester - Republicans...as a protest Write In Vote!

actually, i can think of a candidate that i said i wished was president.... Al Gore. I thought he would have been a great president, especially compared to Bush. In this upcoming election, im not sure if there are any good candidates. I will be voting for McCain but im not sure if he will even make it through the primaries. If the election comes down to Hillary and Rudy Giulliani, I think America is screwed.

Like one of the previous voters said, your last sentence is your answer.
Other than that, it has gotten to a point where its not about the people themselves, but rather about the election campaign. And the election campaign isn't about the campaign, its about money. The candidate with the most money will get the most votes. As for the smart individuals, they do much better as heads of large corporations.

Remember the controversy with the election and the DNC complaining their phones were blocked also? Maybe we didn't vote him in. If we'd look at the backgounds of the candidates we might learn something. Also what they have done on behalf of US.

Someone wrote this in on one of my questions...

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger”. ~ Hermann Goering, second in command of the Third Reich and key founder of the Nazi party

Because smug, self-righteous prigs like the questioner can't muster up enough votes for a "smart" candidate.

Yes. Unfortunately a Ronald Reagan only comes along every 5 or 6 generations. And for those of us still voting, we shot our wade in the 80's. Every candidate sense then is Cr*p! See you NEXT millennium!!!

Because only rich people can run. Most rich people have no idea what America is really like...at least our version of it. Plus, 9 times out of 10...if you are rich, you had to do something shady to get there...if you were born rich, your parents or grandparents did the shady thing for ya. You don't get rich by just working hard, being honest, and not stepping on people on the way up.
