You wont find any that will just for the fact of your age. The youngest doctors will is 27 and thats a maybe.....
So good luck in finding one, if you find one!

Why?? You can get a shot once a month, an implant that lasts for several months - why have surgery to prevent pregnancy why all of these birth control methods are so readily available?
I was 18 once and also felt that I knew everything about myself and my life. What I didn't know about was what life does to you and the changes that come about as a result. At 18, there is no possible way you can predict what you will want when you are 25, 30, 35, 40.... I have a lot of 30 and 40 something friends frequenting fertility clinics desparately trying to have a baby because they "knew" in their earlier years that they didn't want to have children.
You may not change your mind, but keep your options open in case you do.

I would be surprised if a doctor would perform it on someone so young. Usually they will not - because a lot of people "know without a doubt" that they don't want kids at that young age and then change their minds when the biological clock starts ticking.

Getting your tubes tied is invasive and expensive. So is reversal. The doctor may have ethical objections to performing this on someone so young, or they may just be afraid that you'll change your mind down the road and sue.

You can ask doctors but many people who are in their mid-twenties AND have kids still find it difficult or impossible to get someone to perform this.

It's honestly pretty unlikely. Although most states (in the US) do not actually have a *law* about the minimum age you can have sterilization surgeries, very few doctors will go for it for an 18 year old.

I would suggest that you talk to your current gynecologist about your desire for a tubal ligation. Even if they say they won't refer you to a surgeon at this point, ask to have a note made in your chart. Then maybe a few years down the road, you can say "here is some evidence that I've wanted this for X amount of time. Now will you trust me?" There's also nothing wrong with talking to another doc if the first one doesn't want to help you out.

The link below is for a livejournal community for sterilization procedures. You can post questions, ask for names of friendly doctors, and read old questions from people in your area (in some cases)

As far as I know, no doctors will perform it unless something medically is wrong. I have heard around my area where I live, that unless you are 21 and with 2 or more kids then they will perform a tubal ligation. But, I doubt that at age 18 that they will. I just read that there can also be an reversal to that procedure in case you change your mind about kids. I am the oldest out of 8 kids. I am glad that my mom had us.

I can't imagine a doctor would unless there were health issues. Most doctors won't do it unless you got a kid or two and are in your late 20's. All you can do is call around to your local doctors and ask.

The thing is though, you may change your mind....even if you know what you want now, 10 or even 20 yrs. from now you may want a child. While getting your tubes untied is still an option it does cut down the success rate of concieving. I wish you look with whatever you decide.

Wow ....off hand can't think of any ...but money can get you anything .......at the age of 18 I would think things through thoroughly .....if not prepared for children whatsoever ......may be worth not having taking the risk for that problem ......insecurity about oneself ....or about the possible father .....can cause plenty of doubts ....but then again an avenue may open to where that fulfillment may become attractive .....good luck ....hmmmm spare a thought for the moment ......

My friend has been trying to have this done for a few years now (she is 26) and she has been unable to find a doctor willing to perform the procedure on her because of her age. This is in the NY area

Yeah I did. It's totally reversible contrary to belief. It's the same as a vasectomy. Having the stapled however is irreversible. Doctors WILL not perform a hysterectomy though. Unless its a health issue. Dont worry bout it honey!

I will suggest that there is a new birth control that is t shaped and you have to undergo surgery and last 5 years. When you decide to take it out it will take you anywhere from 1-3 months to get pregnant.

ONE of my good friends is an OB GYN.

Do what you want to do its your body and good luck

Yes, there are plenty of children in the world to adopt, but there is no other kind of feeling in this world like having your own children. At 18 I don't think you should be making such harsh decisions. I didn't want kids at 18 either, but by 22 I did. You have plenty of time to decide and many other alternative methods to use if you don't want kids right now.

In my humble opinion:
If I have learned one thing in life, it is the fact that people change over time. I have a friend that who also said that they did not want children when they were 17 years old, but now they have two and they think that it is the best thing in the world. Careful consideration is the best advice I can give in this situation. I have not heard of anyone doing this procedure before so young. I am certainly not an expert in this field so you should consult with an expert before doing anything. My view is just an opinion.
