Maybe I can get a used 1996 Suzuki Savage, 15K miles. How much longer will it last before it needs major surgery? How long does the drive belt last? Tires? Electrical system, any problems? Anyone have good, bad, experiences with maintaining this motorcycle?

I had a Savage...did over 25,000 kilometres on it..had trouble with the electrical system.(after an accident..got Tboned by a car)...the bike lost all power (electrical)..the problem was the ignition switch on the right side of the bike by the side cover..

its very close to the frame & was shorting out ...

other than that....no problems...belt didnt even look like it needed replcement.. ..Tires...how hard do you ride?? LOL..

there are some good site on the net especialy in europe...

plenty of blokes modifying them..

might be able to find a manual or more info here

These are pretty good basic thumper motorcycles.. Like all bikes condition and care is everything. If it is clean and runs well you should not have many problems.. at that age be sure that the carbs are clean and the gas is not old, the battery is good, the tires are relatively new, and the drive belt is also near new.. rubber things will rot even if not used.
