With the exception of Germany, things are stricter elsewhere in the world than the US. In Asia and the Middle East, they don't fool around and if you screw up, you won't have the protections of a Bill of Rights.

I spent as much time on line going through security in London for quick flight to Dublin as I did flying! EVERYONE had to have all their carry ons hand-searched. They didn't just xray everything, they eyeballed and touched everything - and this was BEFORE 9/11! I can't imagine what it's like now!
