you can get a cor 2 duo e6400($250) for cheap, but I would go with the e6600($320) that has the 4mb l2 coache. Buy a 680i motherboard they have full x16 pci-e sli lanes, this will allow you to upgrade to sli if needed in future. Definitely buy ddr2 800 or higher for your ram, I recommend corsair. When you buy a psu (power supply unit) dont sell youself short! I recommend buying from Http://www.pcpowercooling.com, they have awsome built psu's and you can buy a silencer 750w for less than $200 (silencer 750 supports two 8800gtx in sli). When you buy a case make sure its solid, there are so many plastic pieces of sh-t out there. Make sure your case is the same type as your motherboard (atx or btx) and i recommend getting a full tower so you have room for future upgrades. Graphics card will be your hardest choice, do you want to play future games or the games on the market today? Future games would require next generation cards like the 8800gtx or gts and costs an arm and a leg. To play games of today i would recommend getting a 7950gt 512m ($250). When you buy your harddrive just make sure it is at least 7200 rpm and 16mb Cache.
