Wow! I was just having this same conversation with my class (8 and 9 year olds)!!!
Anyhoo, apparently I 'said' "coo" when I was born (I don't think that counts, mum!)... but then later on it was "dada".
PS: Your friend seriously said 'upsidedown' before 'dad' or 'mum' or 'no' or 'mine'???

This is really unoriginal, but "Mama!"
I was into the mainstream as a child.

Mine was "Dindee." It was the name I gave my favorite blanket. I still have that blanket, too. My daughter used it when she was little.

Well... I know my first (English) phrase. (I grew up speaking Italian and English.)
I was always so little so I often said "Too beeeg!" (beeeg = big)
