I hate it how he was saying that his team had little chance of beating the Mavericks just because the Mavs have the best record in the league. The result was that the Knicks went into this game already thinking they had lost, and not believing in themselves and believing they could beat the Mavs. If they had gone into it thinking they could beat this team, I bet they would have. If the Knicks are going to be a great team, which I believe they will become soon, then they need to go into every game with the mindset that they can beat anyone. Isiah should be encouraging his players, no matter who their opponent is. I hope when the Knicks play the Mavs again next week, that Isiah gets them pumped up for victory, and not have them throw in the towel and accept losing just because that loss comes at the hands of the team with a good record.

I'm disappointed because I thought Isiah believed in this team. If David Lee, Q-Rich, and Jamal weren't injured, the Knicks would have stomped over the Mavericks. And they still could have won tonight, had the shot better (FG%) and gone into the game with the right mindset.

No, you misunderstood me. I'm not an Isiah hater. In fact, I've always supported him, as I mention in other Knicks q's and a's. I was just surprised that the Knicks gave up so easily against the Mavs. It was out of character for Isiah because he always believes in this team and says they will never give up.

Folks, Isiah is not an idiot. He knows the mood and the pulse of his team better than any of us transient people who have likely never even met a single Knick player.

It was a motivational tactic. He was trying to psyche his team up. Isiah is not so foolish to do something that would have them "already thinking they had lost."

That is something that only a Larry Brown would do.

So no, Isiah does not have little faith in his team. He is just a realist who is trying to motivate his team in the short-term while getting them ready for such games over the long-haul. Read into things a little.

I don't blame Isiah for having such little faith in his players. They are a team who has a bad chemistry because of injuries and lack of chamistry. I think if you give them several more seasons, they will be a post-season threat for many years to come. The key to overcome the drought of their team in terms of winning is the off-season. That time of the year is the most important for them at this point in time. They have to make major changes. They have to adjust their roster, staff, and management.
I actually give Isiah props for hanging in there. The Knicks have been one of the most exciting teams. They play with passion and they continue to play until the final bell rings. They are young and they have a coach who is only starting out.

Yes. He really has little faith in his team. But who can blame him when the team is not playing well and costing the Knicks heaps of money! But I do agree that he needs to set the team mindset to win the game rather than lowering their self-esteem.
