yes, but sometimes a landlord will take a chance. If your credit is lousy, you need to "own" it and explain why it's a thing of the past and then offer a double deposit as proof of your good faith effort to clean up your act.

Depends on the complex... typically if you don't have good credit then they may ask for a larger security deposit from you. One or the other.
