Check with your local newspaper. Call some of your milk distributors; T.G. Lee, Velda Farms, etc. Bread makers. Call a radio station for the number one song. Gas stations in the area should be able to help you with a price from back then.

Try using wikipedia, I'm sure they'd have an article on life in 1986.
