I just avoid my mother. Every time run into her she just nags about stuff even when there is nothing to nag about. It's really annoying too because she always predicts the worst as if she is trying to curse me or something. And when I tell her she's annoying, she'll just say that she is that way because she has to keep her thoughts bottled up until the next time I see her because I avoid her so much. Heh. Hello! There's a reason why I ignore you, you arrogant, clueless woman! So er yeah. But to answer your question, there really is no "nice" way to tell your mother to shut up. If you have to resort to telling your mother to shut up, then you're obviously at the end of your patience, so just say it straight up: "Mother, you're annoying. Shut up." =) Or you can just avoid her like I do with mine.

Can you clarify? What is your situation? One thing I do is that I tell my mother "Mom, please do not mention that to me ever again. I expect you to be mature and respect what I am asking you to do." In this way, you are reversing the situation and putting high expectations on your mother, since she is, after all, the role model. It may seem too upfront, and your mother might get angry and even claim you are not honoring her, but honesty and firmness is at times needed. Parents, after all, are human beings and can abuse their authority. Sometimes, being politely straighforward is necessary.

HELL NO! Why do you say that to your mum? Among all people your mum! what kind of person are you? Appreciate her even if she wrongs you. Were it not for her where would you be?Open your eyes and dont do it you might regret it.

well whe she was a live, i found it best to be in another state an call her to tell her lol.. belive me mom, dont like to be that,, an we all know if mom not happy, no one going to be happy,lol hugs

I will keep quiet and walk away. coz since she is my mum i can't be rude to her. as she will say : i say all this is for your own good.
she can't be talking on her own, so just walk away. Its not rude and it won't hurt her heart.

sometimes i would just shake my head my mom. if that doesn't work i would shoush her ( out of arm reach. she is type to smack me on my back or arm even i am over 50 yrs old). or just say "mom please not now".
