Millions lose their jobs. Not just the corporate exec's mind you but every average joe in any factory. Million of smokers will be in a very bad mood for a very long time. I see rioting, i see boot legging of cigarettes like any other illegeal drug. Its one more thing our law enforcement must deal with. And possibly mess up our economy. Money that would stay in the US may be spend on import items.
The pro is that smoking related illness will decrease.

In my opinion , this statement has no pros. It is regulatory and violates peoples rights to sell a product that there is a market for. The protection of American public health is so broad that it is unfair to pick on the tobacco industry any more or less that anything else that people put in their mouths, including prescription drugs and processed foods. People that make unwise health choices ultimately pay for them. Also, anything that governments get involved with, get screwed up anyways.

People will be fuming. (no pun intended)
But they did that with seat belt laws.
A seatbelt damn near killed me once. I'll never wear one.
It's my choice, but now it's against the law.
I'll take my chances, I can't pick and choose the wreck where
a seatbelt will help me. Media persuasion. Beat in people's head's long enough and they'll parot it.
With enough media help, cigarettes will be against the law .
too. Oh, I'm a non smoker by the way, just giving an opinion.
I believe that when goverment legislates private lives, it's
the begining of the end of democracy.

Its one perspective on health care. The same concept that justifies making most recreational drugs illegal.
Those in favor claim it's the job of the govt to protect people from themselves, and that people should not be allowed to do anything that harms themselves, no matter how voluntary or how well informed the choice.
Those opposed say the govt shouldn't be treating everyone like 3-year olds, and that adults should be able to choose for themselves what they do in the privacy of their own home.

CON:
You are legislating what people can and cannot choose to do in their private lives. This takes personal responsibility away from the public - the start of people being slaves to ignorant politician who think they know what's best for others.
Did you know that Heart Disease, not lung cancer is the leading cause of death in the US? To justify this law, you would first have to outlaw McDonalds, Burger King, etc.
PROS:
None listed

Pros: Less cost for Health Insurance. Fewer cases of cancer. Fewer cases of asthma. Less pollution.
Cons: Tobacco farmers, those who really made this country in the beginning would be out of business. (Although you could plant another crop there, such as marijuana for ethanol and medical). Doctors might not get paid as much.

Pro's would be many but not all people would quit smoking.
Con's
tobacco industry would go under mass unemployment
Tax revenue would be lost
Black markets would spring up everywhere
Major withdrawal and increase in spousal and child abuse maybe even the family pet abuse
Pipe smoking would become the new rage and cigar anyone?
