My car just got out of the shop and the guy repaired the catallic converter and cleaned the mass air flow sensor but he said that if it still did what it was before then the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced.

I would strongly caution you against going for the cheap fix in this case. Has the vehicle been to a repair facility and do you know that this is the problem? If you do not know, this is a very expensive test. This is a part that I believe must be purchased from GM. I will almost guarantee quick, if not instant failure, from a discount part store component or salvage yard. This is the most important sensor on the vehicle for engine performance and proper air/fuel mixture ratio. Please buy it from the dealer, you'll thank me later.

make sure it's a mass air flow sensor first!, but, i wouldn't recommend getting one from a j-yard. unless u get it for 10 bucks, since it's a gm product , it should be cheap enough to get it from an auto parts place and u get a warranty too.

i own a repair shop ,and i been getting a lot of mine used from a junk yard, from a wrecked or salvaged car, usually there good, and will last about as long as most people will keep the car or longer, and the customers don't mind saving a little money along the way either, good luck i hope this helps.

Salvage yard. These are fun places to hike around in.
Your car is somewhat common. You should be able to find one for around $50 in a salvage yard. Expect to pay over $300 to $500 new.

auto zone or a after market parts place. You could try a salvage yard but be careful it may be bad so ask about a warrenty.

Salvage yard. Make sure the part numbers are the same. Yeah, yeah, the part might not work... well, that's the price you pay at a salvage yard.
