Absolutely!
Breastfeeding will actully give your child antibodies to whatever you are sick with.
And remember that he was exposed before you even had symptoms.

Yes, you should!! Breastfeeding your baby is the best way to help keep your baby well. When you breastfeed your baby, you pass the antibodies of the illness you have to him so that he is less likely to get sick, or if he does get sick he will heal faster than he would have otherwise. It's probably a good idea to wash your hands a lot, too, if you are worried about passing illness to your son. But no, illness is NOT transmitted through your milk (the only exception is HIV), so you don't have to worry about that.

Be careful about any medicines you take, though -- they are passed through the milk and not everything is safe. I put a link at the bottom.

I'm currently breastfeeding my 10 month old daughter, and I have been since birth. SInce then I have had fever 2 times. Once when I got the flu, and another when I got mastitis(sp?) I nursed the whole time and had no problems. The doctor said it would cause no problems. Good luck, and hope u feel better. plus your milk contains antibodies which will help the baby stay well.

I was just sick two weeks ago and am breastfeeding my six month old. When we went for his shots i mentioned to the doctor that I was amazed that he hadn't gotten sick... I was REALLY ill. She said that every antibody my body made to fight off my infection went through to him and protected him from getting sick as well. He hasn't had any sort of cough, runny nose any cold-like symptoms so far in life, not even a diaper rash!

Keep up the great job nursing! It can be so hard sometimes but it's so worth it!

Yes, the more you do so, the healthier he'll be. Exposure helps him build up immunity and he'll be sick less often. I've breastfed my daughter all these 23 months and she's rarely gotten sick--about 3 colds, 2 ear infections (1 from one of the colds) and now she just got the flu but that's going around here and I have it too. Keep it up--it's totally worth it!

yes! It is extra important for you to breastfeed when you are sick because it actually will prevent your son from catching anything from you!

By the time you get symptoms he has been exposed anyways. Yes. Plus you pass through immunites through breastmilk. It is very good for their immune system, this is why formula fed babies get sick more often and for longer periods of time.

Yes, you just need to drink plenty of fluids like gatorade and maybe some soup like chicken noodle. make sure you call your doctor too.
