yes, injections require a prescription. Oral drugs are usually just as effective unless you are having problems with absorbtion. If you are (like with pernicious anemia) you will need the injection

I use the OTC sublingual B12, but I really don't notice much of a difference.

I mainly use it now after a night of drinking to prevent hangovers.

My Hangover Prevention Tips are to force yourself to drink a hell of a lot of water before falling asleep. Take an Advil (preferably not Tylenol). And B12. Those will prevent any hangover.

No! One can buy sublingual tabs of B-12 at any health food store. Just as effective!
