Your first problem was you bought and installed Norton. It will take over your computer and make it run slower. I have heard of times it will ruin your hard drive all together.
At one time Norton was a good anti virus protection but no more.

I was introduced to Micro World Technologies, Inc and now would use no other program. You can find it at:

www.mwti.net

It has proven to me to be one of the best out there for sale.

I think Norton is fine, I use it. It does take time to load, but the others I've tried have their drawbacks as well. For me Norton added another seems like twenty seconds or so, if it is more than that I would look for other causes. Sorry not more help.

You are slowed down because your Norton's begins in your start up. Shut that down and you win start off faster. Adjust your shields.
