I think you mean laws. There are also ordinances, also known as codes. Codes--example---One can only build on their own property within 5ft. of their lot line. If they have not done what they were suppose to do, it is called a code violation. I hope this clears up your question. Codes are rules that are regulated by communities. They could be different at the next town up the road.
