The MVC- Missouri Valley Conference, just like any other conference has a regular season champion, which was SIU based on their record agains other MVC teams. THe MVC tournament held the week prior to the NCAA tourney was won by Creighton which received an automatic bid to NCAA tourney as MVC tourney champion. So no, SIU is not considered the tourney champ just because Creighton is out of NCAA tourney, but they were regular season champ, but they made tourney as an at-large bid.

Southern Illinois is the best team in the Missouri Valley, but that doesn't mean they're the champ. Creighton won the MVC tounrament...so they are the champion.
