John was totally in love with Yoko, putting her first above the band. George was heavily into Eastern Mysticism and heading in a different direction. Paul wanted to go into new and different directions musically. Ringo was, well, Ringo.
It was a totally awesome time to be a teenager! Rock and Roll was getting away from the rock-a-billy doo-wap roots and becoming a genre of its own. We were realizing that our parents didn't know everything, that they were fallible. The Summer of Love. Free love! No worry about AIDS, never even heard of it. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Life was a groove man, getting high, making love. Tie dye shirts, bell bottom jeans, macrame belts, peace signs, sit-ins, love-ins. Woodstock. Donovan.
Oh yeah, and Kent State. The Democratic National Convention. Viet Nam. Selma, Alabama. George Wallace. The KKK. Watts. John Birch. Flag burning. It was the beginning of the break up of ideologies in America.

They were heading in different directions, with their music and in their lives. John was absorbed in his relationship with Yoko and the things they were getting into, Paul developed a keen interest in business, George was learning about Indian philosophy and music and Ringo just wanted to keep on keeping on.
Although I wish I'd had a chance to see a Beatles concert, I'm just not as lucky as some people. ;)

I think they broke up from a combination of reasons. The death of Brian Epstein I think was a part as well as the public that was so crazy for them also they where growing apart in their music and as people and also Yoko did add to the stress in the group I dont believe she was the sole cause but I do believe she added to the tension which lead to their split.

Well I was not a teenager then I was a newborn but I think they wanted to go their own seperate directions and could not agree on doing it sep and together. They all had diff ideas of where the music should go and so they split up. They were constantly arguing about music and how it should sound so that is why I think they split

Lucky you! I'm only 26, I was raised on Beatles music.
It was because they all wanted to go their own separate ways, they weren't collaborating much anymore, and John was always bringing Yoko into the studio, which put an even bigger strain on everything. It was Paul who tried to coax them back.
But they were all creative geniuses separately, and I don't think Paul McCartney waited more than a few months before he released his first solo album.

As I recall, it was over ownership of the intellectual properties -- the songs themselves. While McCartney was away, the other Beatles signed a contract giving ownership of their collective and individual works to, um, Apple Records, I think. McCartney did not want his individual works to belong to Apple, and so, sued to quit the Beatles and to disband the others.
Okay, I've probably gotten this all wrong. I was just a stupid kid at the time.

I'm not sure, but all great things come to an end. And no I was not a teen during their hayday; I was however raised by two parents who belted out songs like "Hey Jude" and "Lucy in the Sky" while growing up...
