Typical plastics used are polystyrene and acrylic. You have to know what type you are dealing with. There are several types available for either, but they are not interchangable. Glue for styrene will not work on acrylic, nor acrylic cement on styrene. The best I've found is the liquid solvent kind. It looks like water but has a very strong chemical smell. It literally dissolves the surface where the edges meet and "weld" the plastic together.Capillary action draws the solvent into the crack. The cool thing about using this type is with a very small paintbrush, all you need do is touch the tip to the end of the crack and the solvent flows into the crack with no overfill which would mar the surface. I take it, this crack starts at the screw hole, caused by the screw? If so, touch the glue to the crack and then remove the screw to let the crack close itself naturally. Then, after it dries, paint the inside of the screw hole and then insert the screw carefully. If you turn the screw even a quarter turn too much, you will do more damage to the hole by displacing the softened plastic from the solvent. Be very careful to stop at the right point, the head in bare contact with the surface. Less is better here as you can always go back later and finish the last little bit of tightening to seat the screw. The solvent will allow the hole to formfit to the screw without undue stress on the surrounding structure. Most cracks happen at screws because of the selftapping which causes stress points at the point where the screw displaced plastic to carve the threads, which expands the hole, eventually causing a crack which starts at the screw and moves outward. This will not lock the screw in place, but the hole will literally fit itself to the screw. I've used this paint the inside of the hole method to repair stripped threads in plastic. You must disassemble so that only the stripped hole is there, not the parts held in place with the screw, and then you put the screw in only to the position it would normally be.
