My son has been in the hospital since last friday with gastroenteritis and they told us that he can go home as soon as he eats regularly but yesterday he only had 11oz the whole day and so far today he's only had 6oz. We've tried giving him 4 different types of formula, different types of food in a jar and 3 different types of pedialyte. The hospital staff is out of ideas and so am I and I'm dying to go home to my 3 yr old. I'm starting to feel trapped. Does anyone have any ideas?

It is very common for babies to go on food strikes. Their "likes" are changing all of the time. As long as she is getting the right amount of breastmilk or formula and is gaining weight, there is no reason to be concerned.

At this time its anything and everything he'll take....whats his favorite sweet? Give it to him in a way he can feed himself. My son just got over the flu himself and will not let anyone feed him since then, he has to do it himself or he wont take it. So any finger foods would be great right now, even if a little sugary to get him going again. I found really thick oatmeal does the trick for him for breakfast then boiled or steamed veggies for lunch with some beans for protein, and what ever youre eating for dinner. Sit down and have a meal with him, even if it means bringing in a portable highchair. If hes as suspicious as my son is, hes probably thinking that you guys had something to do with all this....atleast thats what it looked like to me when my son started refusing food from me lol. Take it in stride momma, he wont starve himself forever.

this can be a serious situation, the baby is not being able
to take the food as offered, have the doctors looked at the possibility of pyloric stenosis? it is a condition that will not allow the food given to enter the small intestine.thus the child is not able to gain the nutrition it needs. have them check this out. happens in males mostly too by the way. let me know what is going on i care.

Offer him yogurt, sometimes baby food is just to bland. I have a 16 mo old that never ate baby food. She refused fruits, veg, meats etc. By the time she was nine months old I had to get creative. We started giving her fresh fruits and veggies, cooked and blended or smashed up so that she wouldn't choke. She also loved vienna sausages, not exactly healthy, but real food fills them up in much smaller quantities. Hope this helps.

Stick with Similac, see if they will let you mix just a little bit of Karo Syrup with luke warm water.
