Well i eat about 3 packs of haribo a day- i know its bad for my health (cavities etc.) and i should have a balanced diet.
I went onto http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/What_is_diabetes/Myths/ and it says sugar cant give you diabetes, apart from increasing your chance of being overweight, which increases the chance of getting diabetes.
However loads of people i asked said that you can get diabetes. i e-mailed diabetic foundation and they said no, but im confused. Can you or cant you???

the reason why people get type 2 diabetes is because the pancreas, which produces insulin is overworked...

insulin brings down sugar levels in your blood..

the more sugar or carbohydrates you eat, the more your pancreas needs to work..( it's worse if you are overweight because the pancreas need to produce more insulin because the body is bigger.

the pancreas is like a car... the more you use the car, the more problems the car has... (some cars like people have more problems than others... that's where genetics play a part)..

as the car gets older it becomes less efficient and so does the pancreas... when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin... the result is type 2 diabetes.

I hope this analogy helped...

Eating Haribo every day won't directly give you diabetes! However eating all those sweets will add some inches to your waist and this in turn increases the risk of you getting diabetes. My advice would be to stop eating them and use them as a treat perhap once or twice a week.

For the most part diabetes is a genetic thing. Its passed on from your family. That's how you get it. Sugar nags on diabetes as does cholesterol. Any of the following is bad for diabetics or eating to much when it runs in your family.
Sugar
any grains such as bread, or crackers
anything with alto of cholesterol such as potatoes and butter
As long as your on a diet not a strict diet but a diet you'll be fine. So no sugar doesn't cause it but it does effect it badly.

HEY! DONT LISTEN TO ELMO OR ROSEY! THERE NOT RIGHT. THE OTHER CHICK IS PRETTY CLOSE. i am a type 1 diabetic. it is not always genetics. it can sometimes just happen. and there is nothing you can do about it. i did nothing to make myself diabetic. i didnt eat too much sugar or overwork my pancreas. i dont know what the hell rosey is talkin about. type one is where my pancreas just stops making insulin. if you dont have insulin in your blood stream you get high blood sugar wich can lead to amputation, blindness, kidney failure, heart falure, and even toothedecay. i swear i could type forever about this but thats not what your askin. think of it like this. a red blood cell has a door on it. the door has a lock. and the lock needs a key. sugar needs o get through the door into the red blood cell. the key is the insulin. it allows the sugar to get into the blood cell. without the key the sugar just floats around in the blood stream. thats bad. so that is type one. type 2 is a joke. it is totally different.being fat is not always the case. what happens is that you have insulin, but its not getting in the blood cell. instead of no key, the lock is rusty. this happens if you DO NOT EXERCISE enough. if the sugar in the blood cell is not used, it makes the lock rusty.
so usually its fat people. just exercise and youll be fine. hey your welcome and i hoped i helped you a lot!

If you are not yet diabetic you will handle sugar normally. It is only once you actually are diabetic that you will have trouble and your sugar will rise. So you are quite right, sugar may make you fat, which might ultimately cause you to develop diabetes, but it doesn't make you diabetic otherwise.
