i own a shop ,and a new one is going to be really high, probably around 1800 for it,a good used one at least 5-800 for it,,really it all depends on how many miles the used one will have on it but be careful used ones don't have much of a warranty on them,if you want one that will last and have a real good warranty on it call jasper transmissions, they put a 3 year 75 thousand mile warranty on there's,they cost around 1800 hundred, but there worth it,good luck,i hope this helps.there number is 1-800 -827-7455,good luck with it

depending on your engine that is used in your vehicle. the mountaineers had two different engines and two different transmissions. if it had the 5.0 liter then it had the 4R70W transmission. usually running around 1600-1800 before install. if your vehicle has the 4.0 then it ran the 5R55E transmission. running close to the same maybe a little more. the price soley depends on what type of dealership you get from as well. ford will be more then say like jasper would be as dodgeman said. having rebuilt my fair share of both of these transmissions and knowing that the trans shops don't give as good a warrenty as the dealership or a reman company does i would stick with a good quality reman. over a junkyard pull out. if you get one from a salvage yard you get a 30 day concrete warrenty. meaning it hits the concrete its yours. you pretty much get what you pay for there. hope this helps. good luck.

I replace a transmission that has a 12 month warranty for 1600.00. If you want one used, I wouldn't as the rebuilts have parts to correct the perpetual Mountaineer failires, but one may run around 700.00 with a 30 day it'll run home guarnatee I'd install it for 350.
I also get mine from Jasper they have different warranty limits I go for the 12 mo usually but you can get longer terms

check with a transmission shop. the dealer will only take to him anyhow. its pricey. a 2002 would be worth a new one, but yours might be fixable. thats why the transmission shop. gat an estimate. you can ba looking at a possible 2500,dollars or more. == new ===shop

My best suggestion is to go to a Transmission specialist and they will handle everything at a reasonable price. rather than the dealer. ( douple price )
