Antibiotics and "the pill" don't mix. They make the pill less effective, which is bad for both of you! Be sure to use other forms of BC while she is taking the antibiotics.
Don't let her stop taking the antibiotics, it is very important to finish ALL of those pills to take care of what is ailing her! I don't know much about steroids, I think she should check with her doc. Sometime the doc doesn't always know best, I'm living proof! Been hospitalized twice due to 2 different doc's ignorance. So maybe a second opinion would do her good.
And maybe to make you feel a bit better...Every woman's cycle varies, even on the pill. One month you'll find you can't notice a mood change and the next she may seem like the devil incarnate! The "flow" varies as well and really stresses us out sometimes! Just give her the support she needs and if she won't go to the doctor, make the appointment for her. Some women are hard-headed and think "oh, it's okay, I'll be fine". There are plenty of times when that's true, but why not get checked out anyways? Better to find a problem that may exist than to deny one may exist at all.
Good luck to you both and hang in there, all will be good soon!

It sounds like your girlfriend needs to talk to her doctor. The antibiotics most definitely interact with the birth control pills, making the oral contraceptives less effective so use a back up method of protection. I am not sure how long or how many periods she has been noticing this heavier trend with but she should definitely write these things down and talk to her doctor because some thing else might be going on. I am not sure about the steroids having any affect without knowing which medications she is on but if you can get the names of the meds I can take a look.

It could be the antibiotics, the steroids or a combination of the two, as both types of medication can cause birth control pills to be less effective. Have her talk to her doctor.

#1. birth control is affected by antibiotics. use a condom as well while she is on them.
#2. she needs to talk to her doctor. why was she given the antibiotics in the first place, then given steroids? makes no sense to me.
first of all, remember that the antibiotics make the pills less effective. SHE CAN GET PREGNANT...please be careful.

She should get off the steroids and start taking natural bacteria, like the kind in yogurt to build her immune system back up naturally. I can't believe they gave those to her.

I know this isn't exactly related to the asked question.... but I hope you know that antibiotics can make "pills" ineffective.
