I use a powder that matches my skin to even out my skin tone because I have some red splotches. Then I use either a bronze-ish colored eye shadow, or a dark brown shadow, just a little bit so that it adds color, but not too much. Finish it off with a clear or light pink lip gloss. I wouldn't wear eye liner or lip liner. It makes you look like you have a lot of make up on and that is not what you want to do. If you want more than that, then put on some brown mascara. Black mascara just looks really harsh, especially if you have light colored skin, and brown just looks really light and blends in with your lashes.
And, I agree with you about people wearing a lot of make up.

Go to a body shop, they have lots of great makeup to go 'natural' (if your skin is white sorry if its not) you should stay on the light brown shades, a nude lippy, no eyeliners maybe a little mascara and a light brown eye shadow, with a skin tone foundation, maix and match, but light to nude browns always give the natural look, otherwise if say you wear a red jumper wear red lippy or eyeshadow, remember only make either your eyes or lips stand out not both as it will look funny and over the top. get a pack of colours cheap so you can make blends etc to see what suits your face best, also standing in a bathroom can often put your colours off, best to do it out in the sun so you can get the full view of your colours in all there glory, good luck.
p.s body shops will also have nice body butters to help your skin tone and smell, they are great for morning and nights and means you dont have to wear foundation, also a second opinion is always good, maybe your mum, or a good friend,

I usually don't wear any makeup at all because of time constraints. But I have this great eyeshadow from the Body Shop that's super natural looking. It's called a shimmer cube or something, and the lightest color is called marshmallow. I sweep that across my eyelids and up to my eyebrows, and the 2nd lightest color across my lids, and it looks really great. Sometimes I use an eyelash curler and occasionally some Maybelline mascara and a bit of blush. Then a bit of chapstick or a neutral or soft pink lip gloss. Voila!

I try to be as natural as I can with my makeup. I use Loreal foundation (try to get the closest shade) and a loose powder over it. I also wear a little eyeliner on top and bottom. Then I put neutral shades of eyeshadow (cream, beige colors) and some mascara. Sometimes a little blush. It looks pretty natural.

I already work, and there are some days that I just want to go completely without make-up(yeah, it's the laziness in me..tee hee) and some days when I just want to go out all spiffed up. When I feel that way, I put on face powder first (the glittery type, makes my face appear happy), then eyeliner (i always put on black, no other color), then mascara (transparent, and if there is any left in the tube.tee hee). Afterwards, I put blush-on on the cheeks. As I am not-so-fair and not-so-dark, I use rose-colored blush-on. And then, when I still got time for it, I put on eyeshadow. The usual color is, you guessed it, black. But I also use blue and other colors occassionally. I put a white base first before any other color, to highlight it. And then I put on lipstick. Pink is the lipstick color for me, no other. And then a lip gloss...Anyways, if you are still studying, its good to stick to face powder and lip gloss on an everday basis. I mean, you would not want people to always see you with full make up on. After all, I think full make-up is meant only for special occassions..Hope I helped. And hey, thanks for inviting me in your Yahoo Answers Network..*all smiles*

I just use Neutrogena Minerals
which is a very light mineral powder that just evens out skin tone and gets the oily OUT
its great, very natural
and then I just put on mascara (usually Maybelline XXL or the little blue Loreal one, forgot the name, something along the lines of Curvedifying) and I'm out the door
pretty and simple

lol....well I just use tones to accentuate my natural colors.....like, a nice light pinkish/tan lipstick for my lips, a slightly shimmery light tan eye shadow and a dab of bronzer on my cheeks.. Looks really natural..
By the way, I use Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals products on my skin - it works better than any other brand I've ever used
