It was Tony Conigliaro who was hit and had his vision permanently damaged. Conigliaro was hit because he stood almost on top of home plate and tried to pull everything over the green monster. He was very good, very young.The beaning didn't end his career right there, as he played for several more years, and even went on to hit 30 home runs in a season after that. However, he was never again became the player he was. It was really sad, he was done before he was 30.

yeah , Tony Conigliaro , he was gonna be a great player , i still have a newspaper article in a scrapbook about him coming into the league.hit in the cheekbone by the angels jack hamilton, he came back to be comeback player of the year, but his eyesight never was right again and did`nt last long after. sadly he passed away at age 45,
