My baby will be 4 months old tomorrow too!!!

The coughing can be good for bringing up mucus. Its rough when they cough so hard that they vomit. We just went through the same thing with our baby 2 weeks ago. We cut down the amount she was eating and increased the number of feedings throughout the day so she still ate as much but just spread over more feeding. That way when she did cough so hard that she vomitted, she didn't have as much in her stomach. Really bad coughing like that shouldn't last more than 2-4 days.

Edit: If you do put Vapor Rub on his chest, make sure that you get the baby rub. The one for adults has CAMPHOR as an active ingredient which can be toxic to babies.

If your baby has alot of drainage, you should also put a book under the feet of his/her head of the bed to help him/her breathe better while sleeping. Also, I put a very little bit of vicks vapor rub just under my babies nose to help clear congestion. If the baby has a very mild fever, you should monitor it and maybe hold on anti-fever meds because the body uses this increase in temp in the body to fight infections.

if his cough is productive that's good. means it's not staying in his lungs. make sure he get's his milk, keep him hydrated. try a cool mist humidifier.it will help brake up the mucus in his airway and let him bring it up when he coughs. which is all a good thing. if u start to notice seesaw breathing (chest up belly down, belly up chest down) or sternal retractions (chest sucks in between ribs) call your doctor. otherwise just keep an eye on him.

Before he goes to sleep put Vick on his chest. And go to the doctor please. It might be something serious and you need to there as soon as possible.
