Many things can cause maternal death such as: bleeding due to a severe cut while performing the episiotomy. Anesthesia always carries a potential risk of death.

Not sure about that, our town just this past summer lost a young girl after childbirth.Still do not know what happened.She died the day after she delivered.

Hemoraging during labor (ruptured/torn uterus).
High blood pressure.
Reaction to anesthesia (epidural)

a lot of things ...maul nutrition, drugs/alcohol, the mother not taking care of herself(rest wise) you can actually work yourself too hard and your body will terminate the pregnancy. there are many more things but i would ask a doc for a handout. they have them and they are good about covering a lot of things

And abruption and a prolapsed chord- both almost killed me with my first child.
