I am going to have a tubal ligation. I haven't had tedoc consult yey. But I am wondering. Bear in mind I know absolutely nothing other than I want a safe form of birth control (I am 35 and have 3 children and that time of my life is over) Where will my eggs be? Will I release vaginal mucus anymore? Will my periods be heavier forever? Anything else?

Let's try to cover all these issues and then some.

"Where will my eggs be?"
In most cases, the eggs still continue to be released. The egg enters the fallopian tube as normal but since it can go any further, it reabsorbs.

"Will I release vaginal mucus anymore?"
Yes, but in some women, not as much as before leading to vaginal dryness. You may find that you need to use a lubricant during intercourse. Please use one specifically for that purpose such as KY...not vaseline!

"Will my periods be heavier forever?"
This is different for everyone. Periods can return to exactly what they were before you ever used any birth control at all. Others have irregular and painful periods, mid-cycle bleeding, or no periods. There is no way to know the effect on your periods until some time passes after the tubal ligation.

Advantages of the procedure:
it's effective immediately
provides permanent birth control
allows sexual spontaneity
many women enjoy sex more knowing that it is "carefree" (no worries over birth control or pregnancy)

I found this site for you, in case you are interested. Please note, it has drawings of the procedure so if you don't desire that much detail, please just ignore the link:
