I am with an online college and we start when the regular colleges start. Fall semester starts in September, Winter mini starts in the beginning of January, Spring starts in the end of January, and the Summer starts in the end of May. The other Summer session starts in the end of June. We don't have our own schedule and we have many deadlines.
My online college is a community college and the tuition per semester is around $1500. Compared to four year colleges that's a bargain. Good luck.

A laptop is more or less outdated the moment you walk out of the store with it. I bought a brand new laptop when I entered college, but there were already better, faster models coming out before classes even started. With that said, I do still have my ancient desktop computer that has been with me since my elementary days and it hasn't yet outlived its usefulness. I'm pretty sure that the laptop will be outdated in four years, but you shouldn't let that stop you from buying one anyway. A computer is meant to make work more efficient, but I'm guessing your back-up computer isn't quite the poster child for efficiency. A good tip when it comes to purchasing electronics is to buy a few steps behind the curve. Yesterday's latest and greatest is still pretty great; the only differences are three letters (-est) and a few $$$ more in your pocket. There's no need to pay for numbers and whistles that you won't use. Some people choose to buy a top-of-the-line machine now so that it might still be able to compete with the more basic models four years into the future. I'm not such a big fan of this approach because top specs and top price doesn't guarantee that your laptop will last four years and the losses are much more substantial if it doesn't. Besides, most people will still want to purchase a newer computer after a few years, regardless of how well the old one still works.
