When I was born my lungs weren't fully developed. My mom didn't smoke or anything. Now im pregnant (22 weeks). I just had my first sonogram a month or so ago. Would they have caught that my babys lungs werent okay in that sonogram? Can they tell this early in my pregnancy that my babys lungs aren't on schedule?

Any serious answers will be appreciated.

first, at 22 weeks your babies lungs will be immature, which is okay. They would be able to tell if there was a congenital defect at this point if there was one. were you a premie? okay, if for some reason there are still concerns about the maturity of your babys lungs by the time u get ready to deliver the doc. will more than likely order a amniocentesis. they use a needle to suck out amniotic fluid and test for surfactant. the test doesn't hurt you or the baby. surfactant coats the lungs and allows for less friction between the lung surface and the membranes covering them, which allow the lungs to expand. if the babys' lungs aren't mature the surfactant will not be present. The doctor will then order steroids which will help your babys' lung's mature faster. After delivery the baby would be monitored in a special care nursery. It's very rare for a baby to be born with immature lungs unless they're preemie. Most hospitals deal with this on a regular basis and you would be in very good hands. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you still have concerns talk to your doctor and take a tour of the labor unit of the hospital. Good Luck and Congrats on your new baby!

Lungs are the last thing to develop. Many babies have that problem. Unless you were diagnosed with a genetic disease when you are born most likely your baby is just fine.

everything will be fine.
and if your baby does have the same problem you had when you were born then there is plenty of special care avaliable 2 your baby just let ya midwife know that you had this when you were born and they will look out 4 it after delivery.

i think it would be too early to tell. maybe when your 3-4 months pregnant, that's when most of the baby's body will be developed ( to some degree)...
but try telling your doctor your concerns! that's what they're there for :-)
