I just hear him telling people they are off pitch, and maybe I hear things different. I have musical training, and I wonder if he has any, because his critiques are way off.

Simon may be a harsh critic but half the time he tells the truth. It's ok to believe in yourself to a certain extent but damn! These kids get their feelings hurt but it's all in the game. If they think American Idol is tough and unfair... how are they going to cope with the real world? The competition is fierce out there. If Simon doesn't get them now then I'm sorry but they are in for a rude awakening. Some of his critiques are based on anything from wardrobe to hairstyle and yes... they are wack. It is only when he gets into personal attacks for his own selfish reasons that I have a problem with the 'Old Boy'!!!

As a professional singer, I tend to agree with him because most people on that show (and a few past winners) have terrible intonation problems. Don't know if Simon has musical training but he's the creator of the show and his record company is the one giving out contracts to the winners so it matters little what the general public thinks of him. He's making money regardless.

I think you're the one that's hearing things wrong. Because everything Simon tells people about their voice is true. A lot of people like him because he tells things the way they are. And pretty sure he has some musical training, because they wouldn't have pick just some random person to come judge peoples voice.
