Three ways for mee would be self-confidence, encouragement from a person of higher authority, or just by believing in yourself (self-confidence) and determination.

Not wanting to hurt loved ones directly or indirectly
Spiritual awakening and (vibrational) alignment with a higher power
Seeking to clear karmic debts
Self-esteem or realization that one deserves better
Conviction in self-empowerment (self confidence) to rise above adversity
Meditation in communion with nature
