We have a family of 3. I stay on stop of left overs daily and check exp. dates monthly. Besides cleaning up spills, I do a complete deep clean (taking out the shelves and everything else) about twice a year. And I try to keep baking soda in the fridge to keep it smelling nice.

I go grocery shopping once a week and when i put the new groceries in i remove any old leftovers from the week before and i clean up any spills and remove anything that may be expired. I clean the drawers like where you put veggies and fruits about every 2-4 weeks depending on how dirty they are. I also keep a box of baking soda in the freezer and in the fridge to keep fresh. I would recommend buying some cleaner called "clorox anywhere". It cleans the spills and is safe around food and kills any bacteria. Family of 5. :)

I usually clean completely every 3 months, there is 5 of us,and the grand kids. Unless I smell something horrible, or something has spilled, then I give it a once over, and I keep a small opened box of baking soda, for odors. With what your saying you could get away with doing a big job of it once a year, and just freshening it up every so often, when you think its needed.

When something waves at me when I open the door I throw out stuff. I take everything out and clean the shelves maybe once every 6 months. I try not to keep left overs too long. There is 4 of us in the house with a teenager that opens the door every 5 seconds.

Mom and dad (currently in iraq) and 4 young boys, cleans as needed. Meaning leftoevers cleaned out every two weeks. Obvious spills wipe as needed. Big cleaning (empty out everything and wash it down) once a year. I think the "as needed" rule is a good one.

Clean as you go along , and you find then that your not always having to clean it up ,and it stays nice all the time .
Keep a small box of baking soda in the refrigerator ,that will help keep odor smells from occuring .

There are two of us, my Hubby and me. I throw out left overs and thoroughly clean the fridge with baking soda, vinegar & water, once a week. Not necessarily that it is dirty at that point, just precautionary measures.
