My friend had sciatic nerve pain very bad for months. She wasn't pregnant but it's the same pain. A few things helped. One, get whats called an exercise ball, you can get them at K-Mart, other stores like that. You just sit on it, you can sit next to a table, etc to hold on until you feel balanced. You just sit, and roll gently back and forth, the movement helps the spine and the muscles around the spine, and it relieved the pain when she could not sit still or lay down comfortably. You can sit on it to watch tv or by the table, or even on the computer. It sounds kind of dumb, but it saved her when she could not be sitting or even laying down comfortably.
Also, massage helps alot. It doesn't have to be a professional, anyone can help out though someone with skill is better.
Lastly, a chiropractor, which almost no medical doctor will recommend. I believe totally in a chiropractors ability to relieve pain. Try it, it's even covered by most insurance companies.
Sorry to hear of your pain, it seemed awful when my friend had it; but these things did help.

Thankfully I didn't experience that when I was pregnant, but did end up having a pinched Sciatic nerve. It hurts. What my therapist did was use the TENs until on my back. It can be used also during labor to ease labor pains. What it does is send a tingle to the nerves that are causing the pain and nubs them a bit. Talk to your Dr. about it. TENS can be used at a certain term in pregnancy, I just can't recall which term, with no harm to the baby...unlike drugs would do.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Yes, it sounds like sciatic pain. I had that very bad with my last 2 pregnancies. Sleep with your legs elevated on a large pillow or rolled-up blanket. It may take a week or two for your body to get used to, but even now, I sleep that way. It relieves all kind of back pain. Good luck!

hi yes i had this when i was around the same time as you, i went to my doc who said it was sciatic nerve pain and there was nothing she could advise apart from to take pain killers, like paracetamol or tylenol.
i found that i got it worse if i sat down in the same possition like in work for a long period of time, or stood for a long period of time. - i found that painkillers didnt particularly help, but that changing possitions instead of sitting for a long time helped slightly - other than that i've not heard anthing else that you could do sorry .
im now 36 weeks and have that pain constantly :( not fun

I worked in chiropractic for several years and helped treat many pregnant women.
Only 1 in 100 women have sciatica while pregnant. There is a condition that is often confused with sciatica. It is called posterior pelvic pain disorder.
You can do a little research on this and maybe consult a chiropractor.

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and just noticed after a long day of working my sciatica flares up. The best thing I can do is tons of legs stretches, as much as it hurts, I just sit on the floor and stretch. Good luck, hope it helps
