I just moved to a new house, and signed up for satellite TV (which I love so I'm not going back to cable), and I only plan on using my cell for phone.

Is there any way to get Internet at home?
I've been coming to this coffee shop a mile from home for the last few weeks, but I'm getting tired of it.

Use Hughes satellite broadband. IF cable is available where you are, get it just for broadband. Cheaper and faster than satellite.

Most cell phone providers offer an option to get online using your cellphone like a modem. It usually required a USB cable from your computer to your phone. Of course you have to sign up with your cell phone provider. Also.. there are "aircards"which plug directly into a laptop and act like a modem.... Verizon is $49.99/month (I THINK) for this service (plus purchase of aircard and 2 year contract)

Also, there are some satellite providers that also provide internet hook up. Usually fantastic download speeds but not so quick on the upload. In the old days, in fact, the upload required a phoneline. Again, check with your provider.

I'm sure, if available, either you cell phone or your satellite provider will be happy to hook you up... for a fee and equipment, etc.

If you have a laptop you can get a card for your laptop that will basically dial into the cell company, but that gets expensive. Satellite is also an option but not as reliable. Might be cheaper to order a single telephone line with nothing on it, and run DSL on it.

You could use your cellphone as a modem but it the reception and speed is not satisfactory. If you want fast internet you still need to apply for a land line cable, but without the telephone. Just tell the company that you need a Internet and you do not wish to apply for a telephone.

Other than dial-up, DSL, or cable, the only other route I can think of is satellite, and I sincerely doubt that you're wanting to pay the outrageous price that'd cost you. EDIT: I wasn't even thinking of wireless for some reason. I'd go with the idea of the person above me.

Check your local telephone provider to see if they offer stand alone DSL in your area. Also, look for wireless internet providers in the area.

I have a satellite connection through Wildblue. Check them out on line. $49.95/month. No complaints.

I'd like to know too, but I think there's a company that can get you on through your satellite.

Wirless companys have a card you can put in your laptop for a monthly fee and it will work wherever you have there coverage. Just like a cellphone. Just call your cellphone company and ask them about. I hope this helps!!
