I was in school when a girl hit me in the head with a exercise ball and I fell off the stage, hit my head and ended up with a neck sprain and concussion. The hospital put me off sports/weight training for a week. I could not try out for softball because of my injury. A girl I know has a injury also and her doctor has put off but she made the team, without going thru tryouts. She was on the team last year. I feel that I am being discriminated against, I don't want to sue I just want a chance to be treated equal. I did not ask to get hit in the head but it did happen. Everyone at my school tells me I need to get involved but then kicks me down, I am so confused.
I would love to go out for the softball team next year BUT I am a 10th grader and every year I don't play it drops my chances of making it go down really Bad. and basiclly I am just wanting to get to the bottom of the Truth is really all.
Also if anybody knows where I can get copies of the law that has to deal with this.

I suggest you speak with your parents and have them contact the school principal. He can then discuss this with the coach. Your parents can also contact your local school board.

Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of rights as a student unless your parents get involved. I have seen this so many times before...the kids get on teams because of who they are and not their abilities.

Hey, what you should do is see your consulor and talk to (him/her) and see what can be done. You're probably not being discriminated (though I also being a tenth grader, have seen a substitute teacher fired due to racisim), but rather chosen a different fate than the other girl. Talk to the coach and your doctor to see what can be done. If you can't be on the team, forget about it! What's past is past. Don't let some little inccident hold you back. Join student council, debate club, do volunteer work, or try-out for another sport.
There is no national law pertaining to this (I'm sure), so you may have to look up state laws. Sueing won't get you anywhere, but on bad terms with the coach and some other players.
I know you're fighting for equality, but sometimes there is nothing you can do.

Best of luck ~Pat

Hi Love, The girl that play on the team last year and has been injury before try outs, they know how she plays and if she is a good player already.Since you got injury before you could try out i would talk to the principal of the school and see if he can talk to the coach of the softball team and arrange for you to try out before the season starts. That will give you a chance to see if you have what it takes to make the team. Good Luck hope you make it. A Friend.

I would say just to go talk to the coach of the team and explain your situation, and\ after your injury clears, he might give you a chance to play or train with the team to prove yourself

talk to the athletic director and then the principle, if that doesnt work your way then ask the school board and they'll really bring it to attention... still you need your doctor's consent to actually play so talk to your doctor and see why you cant and what you can do to pass it.

You may have to sue in order to get what you want. Suing does not have to be for money.
