The tree is only three feet high and has developed a lot of flower buds. I don't want to stress it out

I don't know the age of the tree but it has about thirty flower buds and five developing lemons. Do I pinch the other flower buds off to help the tree itself to grow?

My lemon tree grew 5 the first year. They are Meyer lemons, you didn't say what kind you have. Usually citrus trees don't produce the first year, but meyer lemons do. You won't be able to pick the fruit until November or so, they take like 8 months to mature. Bring the plant inside when it gets cold, but as soon as you see a bee outside, put it out to get pollinated or you'll need to do it yourself with a paint brush. Good luck!

Most citrus trees don't fruit till they are 5-7yrs old. The fact that you have lots of flowers is good. How old was the tree when you got it? The amount of fruit will be dependent on the number of pollinated flowers and the age of the tree. There is nothing you can do in that regard to stress the tree.

I honestly don't remember. I planted 5 citrus trees when I bought this house & the state ripped them out during the canker scare. Then it spread with the hurricanes anyway, so they killed my trees for nothing. They were just starting to produce fruit.

Don't worry. Let the tree sprout as many lemons as possible. The more you pick, the more you continually get.
