Yes, they do. There are so many of them that are former teammates or friends from the AAA leagues or even before, they just aren't like that. They are human and of corse there are some other players that they will dislike, but for the most part they all get along. Thats why you see them talking to each other so often. It isn't always trash talk.
If you want to find out some about this I suggest you read the book "In The Bin". There are a few parts of this that talk about the relations in the NHL and how even if players get into a fight, they don't hate each other forever.
Teams can dislike each other, but that is more for the sake of the fans. If the Flames and the Oilers got along just great, than what would be the point of "The Battle of Alberta"?

For the most part it is left on the ice. I love after a series when they shake hands with the other team, you'll usually see 2 guys who battled against each other where sometimes it was nasty and STILL you see that they are the ones that have a little extra congratulatory hug and telling the other player what a battle it was and good luck in the next round. Roenick/Tucker battle a few years ago really sticks out.
Actually, hockey players are the most repectable athletes of ALL sports.
The only comparable thing is the whole NFL player thing where both teams get on their knees and hold hands and pray. Then, after the game they go and murder people and do coke. I see Joey Porter was charged for assaulting Levi Jones in Vegas this week (NFL players on different teams) -You don't see that in the NHL.

It is true that the NHL players you see fighting on television likely hate each other - it is simply the makeup of how the sport has transformed. Hockey is such a personal game that there are very real divisions among players and teams around the league. Still, there are - of course - players in the NHL who are close friends and do everything together. Camaraderie among teammates are often life-long relationships.

It's not unusual at all for the guys to be good friends off the ice, even if their respective teams are bitter rivals. As another answerer pointed out, a lot of guys can be teammates at college or junior level and later find themselves on different teams, but they're still friends. In that way, **both** the NHL and NFL are like big extended families.

Yes, hockey is a blood-sport. In football lets say The Vikings and Packers are huge rivals though they still are great teams that appreciate eachother. NHL is way different. Let's say the Minnesota Wild and Canucks. They are two teams that completely hate eachother, watch one of their games together, you will see.

on the ice..they hate each other...they get caught up in the game..they curse, fight, hit etc. but off the ice they are really sweet and forgiving. take thomas kaberle for example.eh actually wanted to talk to cam janssen after the hit, not just yell at him or get into a shouting match. and cam almost called him to apoligoze but he felt he didn't do anything wrong and that by calling kaberle he would be saying he did do something wrong. also guys that used to be teamates are still friends. i know whenever the thrashers are in new jersey, bobby holik, marty brodeur, jay pandolfo, and colin white all go over to scott gomez's house and gomez's mom makes them all dinner.
hockey players seem to be nicer than most other athletes
except sean averya dn darcy tucker...they're just asses

Yeah, that seems to be the case. many of them have played together at training camp, or juniors, or on NHL teams, so they know each other. At games when they shake hands you can see them talking or patting somebody on the shoulder. It looks to be one of those everybody knows everybody things...

Players do not fight because of grudges, they simply need to send messages or spark their teams.
