Your one year old doesn't need a pet, wait until he can wipe his butt first. I don't want to sound mean or anything. But you should wait until your son is old enough to know the responsibility that comes with taking care of another life. Turtles are very easy to take care of, but you'll be taking care of that turtle until your son is 8-9 years old. At least wait until he's 8 or 9 so he can chose a pet that he wants. It'll make him feel a little older because he's able to chose what pet he can have. But for now just stick with toys and things he can ride on. Stay away from the pets until he's older. When our baby is born she won't even see our animal room until she's 3. We take really great care of our pets, but there could still be something she could get that doesn't affect adults because we have stronger immune systems.

I suggest that if your son is only one, than don't get a turtle. i used to have a turtle, and they bit kinda hard some times. i suggest something soft, like a Guinea pig. they are very sweet and cuddle. but don't let him mistake any pet as a toy, or bad things could happen to the pet, and the kid might feel a seance of loss, witch is hard to do at a young age. you could always take him to the pet Store, and let him pick out the pet. just, dont jet him see the spiders!

My 2 year old son was given hermit crabs for his birthday. Needless to say he didn't look after them and really didn't bother looking much at them. I'd say don't get your 1 year old a pet unless you really want it to be your pet, with you doing all the maintenance and care. My 7 year old daughter was given some pet mice, and even at that age, I'm the one who cleans the cages. 1 year olds really don't need a pet.

be pretty careful about the turtle some turtles can carry diseases! And you could probably find one@ petsmart!

turtles under the size of four inch in dia are no longer legal to sell do to salmonella poisoning you would have to catch one
