Is an ASN (2-3 yrs college) all you need to get an LPN or RN after taking respective state examinations?

With RN, you can get either an associates degree or a bachelors degree. You'll just have to pass the NCLEX. If you can, become an RN, there's such great demand. An RN gets paid fairly well.
